Dedicated optical light-filtering technology

The EVIS EXERA II Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) capability enhances the visibility of capillaries and other minuscule structures on the mucosal surface. Due to the biological characteristics of tissue,narrow-band light is absorbed and scattered differently in the mucosa compared to white light. This emphasises the contrast between small vessels and normal tissue as well as minute structures within the upper mucosa layers. Dedicated mechanical light-filtering technology was developed providing strong advantages over digital filtering methods.

 


Enhancing visibility with NBI

The improved visibility made possible by NBI may prove to be as good as chromoendoscopy but so much easier to handle. You can switch between regular and NBI images at the touch of a button and as often as necessary. In the upper gastrointestinal tract, NBI helps identify areas of intestinal metaplasia within columnar mucosa in the distal oesophagus. It can also identify specific patterns associated with Barrett’s oesophagus, which may represent lesions of high-grade dysplasia. NBI may also make it possible to more accurately target biopsies in patients with Barrett’s oesophagus. In the lower gastrointestinal tract, NBI emphasises pit patterns and shows the potential to replace chromoendoscopy. In addition to helping improve detection of lesions in the colon, NBI helps identify suspicious areas for target biopsies in patients with ulcerative colitis
